Bathroom Gratings

A grating is an orderly spaced collection of elements. They typically consist of elongated elements that are essentially identical and parallel to each other. A grating can either have a single-set of elements or can sometimes have a double-set also.

The elements in the second set are usually perpendicular to the first set or at an angle to them. When the elements in the two sets are perpendicular to each other, the unit is termed as a grid.

Gratings are primarily used to cover up drains. They act as a filter and block larger particles from flowing into the drain and allow smaller particles, water and air to pass through it. If larger particles enter a drainage system they tend to get stuck in the pipes as the pipes have a comparatively smaller cross sectional area.

This could lead to clogging of the pipe giving rise to a number of difficulties. Hence a grating is used at the entrance of drainage pipes to prevent the line from blockages and clogging. Smaller sized gratings are used in sinks for the same purpose.
